CPL Throwback Thursday - Trailer Service From The Legler Regional Library, Circa. 1940
The Legler Library at 115 South Pulaski Road began an experimental trailer service to area industries on April 19, 1940. The first three industrial plants to receive the service were Binks Manufacturing Company, Brach’s Candy Company and Dowst’s Tootsie Toy Manufacturing Company.
Many area factories held defense contracts and the men and women were working 10 to 12 hours a day. Since they did not have the time to visit their local libraries, the Library’s “service to your door” was very popular among the West Side workers. In 1943, circulation to Brach’s employees alone was 12,338 volumes.

Bedside collection. To read books mostly bequeathed to me from my grandmother. Still have a whole other full sized bookcase filled with her treasures and boxes more…don’t know where to start!

Or, to put it another way: ‘What can’t librarians do?’
A book you finish reading is not the same book it was before you read it.
